Dolly Parton sang a version of the Dolly Show’s Jolene parody song ‘Vaccine’ while receiving her Covid-19 vaccination.

In December 2020, leading UK-based Dolly Parton tribute Kelly O’Brien recorded ‘Vaccine’ – a parody of the Dolly Parton hit Jolene, written by UK comic Anna Morris.

On 2 March, Dolly Parton sang her own modified version of the song while receiving her C19 shot.

Before getting her dose, Dolly sang: “Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I’m begging of you, please don’t hesitate. Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, because once you’re dead, then that’s a bit too late.”

As Kelly says: “For 15 years I’ve been copying Dolly Parton. Now finally she’s copied me!!”

“When I heard her singing it I called Anna and told her ‘oh my goodness, she’s doing our
song’.”

The media soon picked up on the story.

Kelly was interviewed by ITV London and BBC Three Counties on 3 March. BBC Radio Five Live’s Chris Warburton played Kelly and Anna’s song.

In the original ITV broadcast, producers mixed up the videos of Kelly and Dolly.

“It seems that ITV couldn’t tell us apart,” said Kelly.
